hello
I am new to home recording.. I need to know what do I need to record the drums. I have a good soundcard (Creative soundblaster Audigy 2zs Notebook)... What else do I need... A mixer and a good quality of microphones??

Thanks
Joseph :)

first off that soundcard isnt gonna do ya.... not for drums. you need something that will give you at least 2-4 track simultaneous recording. i personally use a Delta 44 with Mackie's Tracktion software. mic wise the sm57 is never a bad way to go for snare and tom mics, as most people love it on snare, though some have other preferences for tom mics. The two favorite kick mics seem to be the AKG D112 and the Shure Beta 52. There are MANY choices for overheads, but a lot of people seem to like some of the MXL sdc's. You will probably need a mixer for preamps, or seperate preamps, but you will be doing your mixing on the notebook mostly.

Do you mean my Emu 0404 won't cut the drums? What if your only using one mic?

you dont wunna record drums with 1 mic..... really you dont. you can get away with 2 tracks...... but 1 gives you NO stereo image at all.......

Ok thanks for your help... but there is any Delta 44 for my notebook?

You could get away with 1 mic if you're John Bonham. 4 is pretty standard.

I ripped this somewhere and stored for friends, prolly unauthorised, prolly gonna get banned, and FBI and CIA and Interpol and Al-quaida on my ass, but here:

sorry the mp4-format..

Another nice FW interface for a notebook or even desktop is the Motu Ultralite.
A few dollars more but probably well worth it. I haven't used any presonus stuff but I love the pre's on my Motu 828MKII. Should be the same ones on both.
You probably already have FW on the notebook anyway, every one says to use 6 pin but I fould the TI 4pin bult into my Dell works better than the 6pins I have tried in the PCMCIA slots

Studio monitors tend to be neutral, they dont color the sound. They dont add bass or high end as some home speakers will. No, you dont HAVE to use studio monitors. Any speakers will do if you KNOW their sound. Know what they add and detract. That takes experience. I would work on your recording environment first.

You can do drums with one mic. And, you can even have your drums in stereo with 1 mic.

IF you have a stereo mic.... lol yeah true but most prople dont.
