Hey all.

My drums sound great but when I record them they sound very far away. Everything else is great except for the drums. How can I make them sound more professional?

Gear (if it helps):
Behringer SL-2442FX-PRO desk
4 x Shure SM-58s
Gretsh Catalina Birch 6-piece (love them drums)

Any words of wisdom?

Thanks.

You could try positioning the mics closer and recording the drums in a smaller room. Usually, they sound far away because of the way the room sounds (reverb etc..).

4 mics on a 6 peice kit is going to sound far away. If you get one mic for each drum and 2 more for overheads, you will be able to get a more in your face sound.

Micing

Hey have you tried XY?
They made my friends kit sound pretty big.
I have a controlled room with about 12 mic's so if you want to spend alot of money get more mics, if not buy a few sm57s.

Have you tryed incresing the gain on the mixer to get a louder input? Just remember it will also pick up other things like fans and fridges alot better too.
