Recording Drums ?

Ok, with my setup i'm using a mixer thats plugged into an Audigy 2 (looking to get a new soundcard but don't know what kind yet..tell me if ya got a personal suggestion). So in my cakewalk sonor 3, when I record the drums, they all come to one track. (I am using about 6 different tracks on my mixer). So When I see you guys talk about panning and Eqing and mixing one track I get sorta confused, if they're all in one track how do you do that? Or is that actually done on the hardware-outboard mixer (as to the computer mixer) Like if I wanted to make one of the overheads to the right...it seems I would have to make the whole set to the right..

I don't know if I explained that very well, but any help is appreciated.

It basically revolves around the issue that you can have 1 independant mono track for every independant audio input of your soundcard.
So if you have the typical stereo card you can have 1 stereo track or 2 independant mono tracks . ( 1 for left / 1 for right).
The only way to breakout your drums across multiple tracks is to either recod you kit in sections or pieces ( like kick and snare, then come back and do toms, then cymbals) or buy a audio card that has 4 to 8 inputs ( such as the Delta 1010).

Once they are combined in a mixer and brought into the computer, you cant unmix them. It's kinda like extracting the egg out of the cake after it is baked.
