recording drums with ONLY two mics - but which ones????

which two mics (one overheard, one for the bass drum) would you folks recommend for recording a simple kit setup (snare, floor tom, bass drum, hi hats, one cymbal).

my shortlisted mics so far are a Rode NT1 and a AKG D112.

any suggestions/recommendations?

If I was limited to 2 mics, I would stick my best large diaphram condenser 1 1/2 feet in front and a foot above the kick, and a 57 on the snare (or better yet, a beyer M201 if you have one). It's a very effective setup, actually.

why use just 2 mics? with $480us you have a lot of options.

I preffer more good mics like the sm57, then just 2 exellent mics like the d112.

O-H A-T pro37r (condensor) $130 each x 2 = $260
snare sm57 $90
kick A-T pro25 $110
------
$460us

the reason i'm asking about using only two mics is that i'm on a limited budget and i would rather get two decent mics that i could use for a variety of purposes, (NT1 for vocals as well a as drum overhead - i guess the Oktava MC-012 would be even more multi-purpose by swapping capsules).

thanks for the suggestions though, keep 'em coming!
