Hello.

I got a SB Live 5.1. and a Behringer mixer with 8 channels, just 2 xlr and 6 lines. For the main out I plug an Y cable that goes from the mixer to the card input.

Is there something I could do (gear replacement is not allowed right now) to have more control in the sound of my drums???.

With a basic setup(3 mics SM57 for snare, PRO25 for BD and a condenser OH), maybe some panning or recording one part at time???.

Hope you guys could give me some tips

doesn't the SB have sterio ins? then you could atleast pan and reasonably mix the drums ....

If it was me... being a self proclaimed good drumer :)...I would record the pieces of the drumset individually. ie, kick, then snare, then HH, then cymbols, or cymbol 1 (etc), ... Kick and snare are usualy center in my mixes anyway do the goal would be to get the cymbols and toms "panable'

Yes, the SB Live has stereo ins, on a single 1/8" stereo minijack.

I´m gonna try the panning stuff for the toms and cymbals. Recording the pieces one at a time needs a simple song to play, not to much fills and stuff like that. I think that´s the best I could do for a while.

Thanks

The Good: You at least have an 8 channel mixer..you can tweak and tweak and tweak till you get it sounding as good as possible with an adequate amount of microphones..placement..etc.

The Bad: Once you start laying other tracks down and you decide the bass drum isn't quite as boomy as you wanted it to be..you are scrizewed. You can adjust the EQ on the drums but you apply the effects to all or none of the entire kit.

The Ugly: the SBLIVE is probably going to frustrate you time and again with the recording you are trying to do. I would imagine at least 4 inputs would make your life much easier...

more details will follow from those with knowledge that far surpasses mine in this area.

Yeah Muskgrave, you´re right. I´m saving some money to buy a Delta 44 or 66, so until I got enough money I´ll stay with my SB.

Thanks
