Something I don't understand very well, been reading about people recording drums with the Motu Ultralite, but it only has 2 mic pres, the other ins don't have pres, so how do you acheive this with this sort of unit ?

Francis.

outboard pre amps. or a mixer patched into them through analog outputs.

Depends...if you're using dynamic mics for recording drums, you dont need to use the mic pres since you can use a TRS cable to plug it in the back of the ultralite via analog ins.

In that way you possibly can't. I wouldn't recommend it anyways.

You'll need a mixer or outboard preamps.

Eh? Any time you mic something you're going to need a preamp to get the signal up to a recordable level.

Like surfmaster says any more than 2 mics thru the ultralite will need either a mixer or outboard mic pres.

That's why the firepod is such a good unit. 8 Class A pres in one slim 1U rack

Oops..my bad. I thought the ultralite had trim/gain knobs for each channel...
