recording Drums on mbox?

 Hello every one,

I'm kinda new to the whole recording thing, and would appreciate all the advice i can get on recording drums. I have an Mbox, which is a two channel system using pro-tools LE.
My question is, what is the best way to mix four mics into 1 channel on Mbox. I've been told a sub-mixer, if this is right, what do i need to consider when buying a sub-mixer?

Thanks.

i think for the best resulls with a live drummer you should get a small mixer (yamaha sells one at guitar center for like $99). mix 2 overhead mics, one for the bass and one for the snare and mix all four mics into BOTH channels on your m-box. Why use only one??

I personally use roland v-drums and have been getting into drumkit from hell midi samples but Ive been thinking about going the live drum route myself.

I agree, don't limit yourself to recording the drums in mono. You will be happier with them in stereo. As for mixers, as suggested, a Yamaha mixer will be good. Also take a look at some of the offerings from Spirit by Soundcraft. Their M Series mixers are quite decent. You will basically need any mixer with at least 4 mic inputs and a stereo output. That pretty much describes all but the smallest of mixers available. I would suggest getting something with at least 8 mic inputs if you can swing it. You might find yourself with a few more mics sooner than you think, and then you'll be able to use them on the kit as well.

Thanks alot, i actually saw a great beringher 12 channel mixer with FX on thomann.de for only 150euro, but i'll deffo check out that yamaha one and those ones from Spirit, do they have a web site or are they a shop in the states? i'm from Ireland! . Thanks again!

Make sure your mixer also provides phantom power.. any condensor-mic you might want to use for overhead/room won't work without it!

does this mean on the inbox..you cant use all 4 channels at once...for example...2 of the mic inputs,...adn 2 line inputs...to mic a drumset
