Hey guys, I am having trouble getting a good sound by micing my Super Champ XD with a sm57. I use a telecaster and record into Logic 9. I have tried micing the center cone, and I have turned the gain back 30-40%. The result sounds alright, it just sounds kind of muffled and fizzly(and thin), if that makes any sense.

Any suggestions????? Thanks!!!

Get the sound adjusted how you like it out of the amp - but with a little less distortion. then move the mic around until what's recorded is what you want. Try it at an angle towards the edge of the speaker.

..Not quite the same mic but since they see fit to skip the effect of micing distance in the '57 spec sheet it'll do..
Take a close look at the 2', 2", 1", 1/8" freq curves. There (aside from you amp tone for the moment) is your low eq for the most part.
The speaker likes to beam the really high end ('fizzy?) right out the center. There's you high top eq.
Somewhere between 'distance', 'angle' and all the other mid tones between 'just off center' and the mellower cone edge.. is the rest of the world. :D
