Recording Direct

How can I record directly from my guitar amp into my laptop? My guitar amp (30watt Fender) only has an ext speaker output, and my laptop only has a mic input, no line. I've been just plugging my guitar into the mic input, adjusting EQ, and using Revalver to give it the distortion I want, but I'd really like to know if I can just use my amp, or am I wasting my time trying? Thanks...

Not without something to boost the signal coming from the ext speaker output. It would sound better if you mic your amp .plug the mic into the mic in on your laptop.
