recording direct from amp

Hi,
I am using a sony md-recordable to record direct from my bass amp through the DI output.
however, I'm not getting a good signal when I try to play it back.
Anyone know how I can make it better?

You could try improving sounds more to your liking using
1. a mixer
2. an equaliser
3. editing or mastering software
