Ok. I've heard about a recording arts degree plan from Texas State University (formerly South West Texas State) and I really think it would help make my dream of owning my own studio a reality. Also, I'm fortunite enough to be in a family who is willing to financially support my going to college. However, I think I would need a fairly strong argument that I would be able to make it in the real world with this kind of education and wouldn't just be wasting a few thousand dollars of my parent's money and four years of my life in order to convince them to support me. If anyone with a similar degree or education or anyone with experience in the recording industry has any ideas or information I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

First of all, keep in mind that just because you can operate the equipment in the studio doesn't mean you can do the management and operations of one.

With that said, I think the best way to learn how to either work at a studio or run one is to get an internship. And that won't cost your family a thing! :)

Thanks for the advice. The degree plan actually requires an internship during the summer after your senior year but getting one somewhere now would be a great way to get a jump start. I forgot to mention that I have been playing around with a tascam 414mkII (analog) recorder and different recording techniques but I realize that this doesn't even compare to working in a real studio. Anyway, thanks again.
