I have this trio I want to record: piano(not grand, but acoustic), viola (that´s a big fiddle, folks) and mezzo soprano (that´s a woman singing...operatic).For the piano I have a matched pair Rode Nt5-sounds great-for the viola a large diaphragm mic called Audio line -is ok- and for the voice an Akg C1000 S.I have a Behringer Ultragain Pro as preamp and then everything goes in to a Yamaha AW16G. I can also use my computer for plugs (Waves for example, for reverb or whatever). My trouble is the vocals: the dynamics are huge!In order not to overload the singer have to move too far from the mic - I get too little signal in the quiet parts (and ugly room reflections). Is a compressor the only way -they don´t like the idea- and how do I use it?I guess I could do it on the Behringer.
Any ideas?
