Hi,

I've had a good scour through the forums and can't find anything that covers my question...

I need to record a 'musical theatre' chorus of about 20-30 singers for use on click tracks which will be used during the show in a theatre. The chorus track will ultimately be mono because the final stereo mix is split; click (right channel, for the band) & vocals(left channel, to FOH). Obviously, I want it to sound realistic (unprocessed) and 'live' rather than a backing group on a record, just not sure exactly how.

What's the best approach to miking/recording the ensemble?
Would it be better to record harmony parts seperately?
...and any other tips anyone can give me would be gratefully received!

Thanks,
Mike

Recording an ensemble without individual mics is very hard. A set of mics along the front of the stage, a few more suspended above the stage - note there can be phase/time issues due to sound hitting the mics at different times.

Thanks,

The recording will actually take place in a rehearsal room, not at the theatre. I can set up whatever mics I might need and wherever I need for the recording. The track is just to be used in a theatre during the performance. Sorry if that wasn't very clear...
