Im new to recording, what do I need to get a good clean sound from my bass, into cool edit pro. My amp is an SWR 100watt w/direct out. any ideas would be great! Thanks

mmmmm let's see

My suggestion: (also listen to others, they are surely more accurate)

1. NEVER use your amp's direct out for recording. Every time I tried to use it, it ended up in a noisy track. YMMV

2. Do you have a mic? You can mic your amp for a cool recording w/ a little ambience.

3. The most used way to record bass that I've seen, it's the simplest. Go direct. Bass to PC. Then EQ as needed.

Good Luck

Peace...

Thanks

Yeah going direct bass to pc 100% better, thanks alot

id take a direct out of the amp and a DI of the bass simultaneously. on mix down, listen to both and see what can be done. i personally dont use mics on bass amps unless i am wanting a lot of the amp's charachter in the signal, or i want more mids. personally, i always take the bass DI, so if there are any problems with the bass not working well, i can just re-amp.
