Hi everyone. Heres the thing. If Im recording in a band with guitars, drums, vocals and bass, I can get away with the Sansamp bass DI and it sounds fine. But if the bassist is going to be soloing, and especially slapping, you need that 'stringy' tone. The way i've done this is to hold an SM57 up to the fretboard while the DI is also on. It sounds excellent, but my question is, what is the best mic to use to record the fretboard like this? the Sm57 sounds fine but im wondering if they make some kind of clip-on or something.I could also mic the amp with the SM57 and get the same effect thanks

That's kind of a cool idea. I would think something with good detail and transient response, ala a small diaphragm condesner of some sort might be a good choice.
