recording audio on ACID

okay...I'm going nuts...everything is about to be thrown out the ^&*&^'ing window. I posted awhile back trying to figure out how to burn an MP3 of an audio track I recorded onto ACID...well, I ended up figuring it out on my own. NOW, I can't remember what I did to record the audio track in the first place! GGGUURRRRRRRR!!!! The options/preferences, et al are driving me nuts. And just remembering how I plugged in my external audio source into my pc has become a Rubiks Cube with 6 million sides.

Can anyone help? I have a simple sound card...a mic plug & a headphones plug (AvanceAC97)...what in the world am I supposed to do?

RECORD (ctrl-R)>set your input (in your case you probably will not need to do this, considering the fact that you only have one IN [input])>record your material>then you can do one of three things

>FILES>TOOLS>RENDER TO NEW TRACK>SAVE TYPE AS>MP3 AUDIO

or

>FILE>RENDER AS>SAVE TYPE AS>MP3 AUDIO

or

>FILE>EXPORT LOOPS>SAVE TYPE AS.MP3 AUDIO

thanks, I did it and it works...I swear I must have done that.

but now, the recorded audio sounds like it's in a wind tunnel- very fuzzy...naturally, I adjusted the level in but it doesn't seem to affect the fact that regardless, the recording levels are registering fuzz very high on acid. IN other words, the yellow lights on the monitor part of the record screen in Acid are fluttering at around 2/3 of the way up. This is happening when I unplug the input, adjust the volume, etc...if there's nothing plugged into my pc at all and I pull up acid and open the record box, those lights are fluttering way high and subsequently recording fuzz.

Check your computers VOLUME CONTROL. (Do you know how to do this)? If you don't, then let us know.

Also, make sure that you are recording into the LINE IN, not the MIC IN. ;)

Check to make sure you don't have other inputs enabled that you are not using!
 
Alright i'm pretty new at this recording thing, I'v got some good sounds so far. I have a sony vaio laptop and i'm using acid pro 4.0 and cool edit 2.0... Now here's then dumb question part of my post... How do you record from the line in not the mic in? And i was wondering if anyone could suggest any cool presets for (compression, reverb, whatever) to use on drums and guitar...it's also weird that even with my headphone vol all the way up i'm having a hard time hearing whats coming out of the board to get a good mix right of the bat, if i turn up the master on the board i can hear but it peaks the tracks... and a bunch of other questions i'll have in the future i'm sure... thanks

Open up the windows mixer applet (double click the little speaker down by the clock) ... click options/properties ... select Adjust volume for Recording.
Place a check mark at all the options ....click OK ...
Now you will put a check mark where it says "select" for Line-in and that fader will control the level in for the Line-In.

Take a look at Audiominds.com .
This site is run by n-Track users, but it has usefull info for any computer based recording.
 
Alright maybe i'm just retarted... I really can't hear out of my monaters I have the line in set right none of my tracks are cliping... i have to turn the board way down to get that to happen... I just really don't know how to get the volume to come through louder so i can hear through the Headphones/mons... Help Help Help!!!
 
Double click the little speaker by the clock and try this Crank up the volume .... Make sure the other playback levels are up also. (wave/mp3, MIDI synth, Line-IN and CD Audio).
The slider (fader) on the far left is the main volume control.
