Recording audio from MIDI?

I've got my midi controlling Reason Adapted but I don't know how to record an audio file from reason? Thanks for any help!

Can reason record audio? I thought it was 100% MIDI? Oh well, if it isnt, do you have the correct cables connected from the OUT of your keyboard to the IN of your soundcard? Remember if your recording audio, MIDI cables wont work. Im guessing youll need 1/4" Jack cables to connect from your controller.

Just a thought, if the midi controller you have is just a controller and has no on-board sounds, theres no way of recording an audio file... MIDI doesnt record via audio signals, its all recorded in code, thus meaning you wont be able to record an audio track unfortunately. If it does have on board sounds, then you will be able to by following the above ^^

My MIDI wind controller runs to my lexicon omega, which runs to a MIDI track in Cubase, which runs to Reason. When I play, it runs into Reason, and then back to Cubase, and I hear audio. I need to find out how to create and audio track, that will pickup up the audio, and allow me to record it.

What you are probably wanting to do is lay a sequence track that plays back the same voice you are playing on your midi controler. I think???

Just record enable another track in cubase and hit the play back in reasons and you should be able to record all the sounds on the new track

There is no need to "record" Reason. You need to get past the idea that Cubase is a tape recorder. It isn't. Just use Rewire to enable the Reason channels you need (from the Reason hardware interface). Mixer tracks will appear in Cubase and you can do all the same things you do to audio and MIDI tracks -- they just don't get "recorded" in the project window.

When you go to export the final mix, the Reason stuff will be there.

The only time you might want to "freeze" the Reason audio is if you want to hear the sounds without having Reason running. Rarely necessary unless you've got a really big production going on.

Recording the audio as opposed to running reason via rewire has the benefit of using less system resources and if you are on a older system can make or break a project in terms of size plugs etc. this is why i do it occasionally ( dealing with an older p4 1.7 system with only 512 of memory at the moment though I am about to swap out my gaming machine for it i think which is a bit better xp2600+ with a gig of ram )

if you would like to use a loop or midi sequence from reason in cubase as a wav you can to go to file->export and export the sequence as a wav file. this essentially mixes down the reason sequence and converts all the events/voices into an audio track. once you have that you can just pop it into cubase. bingo!

Hey. Smart Guy. I said it's not a tape recorder. Just trying to get a new person to think about things differently.

I understand Cubase and Reason. The fact is that Reason MIDI tracks do not have to be recorded within Cubase as audio. Moreover, it's usually a good idea not to unless, as another poster pointed out, system performance is an issue.
