Hi,

I want to record my beatboxing. I dont have a good computer so I am trying to find an alternative to using a computer if I can. Does anyone know how I record with the option of using speakers to play the audio back. Can I add multiple layers? I saw DJ scratch perform and he was able to do this. I am just looking to have some fun, any advice I would appreciate.

You can get a stand alone recorder, I used to have the fostex MR-8. gives 8 tracks of recording to compact flash. Not the best thing in the world, but pretty easy to use and was only about $300, they came out with a hard drive version, but you could probabaly find one of the compact flash versions for about $100 these days. From there you can get a studio-in-a box for as much as thousands of dollars, but that doesn't sound like what you need. There are literlally hundreds of these kinds of things out there.

You could also look into some stand alone digital loop device, there are a few musicins that use these to layer parts so a solo sound gets more intense. This is just a device that you record could record a few beat pattern and then tell it to loop it, then add a diferent part over it, and so on, and you can drop arts in and out to vary it up. This kind of hting woudn;t be a way to record your stuff to be burned to CD exactly, but i could see a beat box live performance with multiple laytres of loops going at one being pretty cool
