No prob. :) The pad is for if you're recording a loud source and getting distortion/clipping, even with the mic pre gain turned all the way down. The pad also keeps the mic's electronics from distorting/clipping on really loud sources too.

No pad, unless you're beating the crap out of your acoustic.

try it both ways and see what you like better!
This makes no sense. You would try it without and then see if there's no way you could get the mic to not clip. If you can't keep it from clipping, you use the pad. HOWEVER...

There's no way in hell a normal guitar player would need a pad for acoustic guitar. The only thing I've ever used a pad on is guitar amp and drums.

There is a reason for using pads even when your not clipping. My understanding is some mic pres have sweet spots. Let's say the sweet spot in your pre is +30dBu. Let's also say your source is so loud you can't turn it up past +20dBu. Put those pads on and BAM your styling.

Every now and again when (as a player) I'm not quite getting the sound I'm wanting from the room or the instrument or the mic then I'll engage the pad. Sometimes I get something much better than without the pad.

Learn the rules. Forget them. And, then create recordings.
