Is that Rane the inexpensive pre that surprised people when it was a/b'd against other pre's 5 times its cost?
Also: small diaphram mikes are fine for recording guitar, but the large diaphrams are good too.
A 4050 or a 414 (a pro perennial favorite)--both can net excellent results...if it's those colors in the box you're looking for.
