Hi i'm Mike Perez thanks for helping me with my questions.
I'm from Massachusetts but am spending a year in Istanbul, Turkey. I really am
in need of recording capabilities. The problem is I'm not completely sure what I want. I know that I just need to start recording my ideas though because I've forgotten so many melodies and catchy rythms. so on one hand i could buy one of those digital multirack recorders for around $500 but they seem like expensive toys. crappy effects and drum loops (all the crap you could not want buddled in a cheap plastic casing) the simplicity is what appeals. Or i could buy bare bone quaility peices, like a mixer and whatever eles i'd need . I don't know much about what those pieces would be though to be honest so thats where the help from you guys comes in. I have access to a Power book G4 1.33 GHz cpu 256 ram no special sound card or anything maybe some one has ideas about that.
So basicaly I need help getting started either building a simple recording unit or avice on all in one units (and your opinions on those). thanks everyone for your wisdom.

It sounds like all you need is an audio interface (which is audio-speak for "soundcard for real recording") and some software.

I don't know jack about macs (even enough to know how capable the system you listed it), but you can get some ideas here:

Recording abroad

Last time I recorded abroad, I just put a microphone in front of her.

Zing! Thanks - I'll be here all week. :D

:D I knew I couldn't get here in time to get that joke in first.
