I'm going to be recording a ska band who has...
Guitar, Drums, Bass, 2 Sax, Trombone, and Trumpet

I'm looking for suggestions are far as what mics to use for what, and any suggestions for recording and mixing this kind of music(how to pan the horns?)

dynamics...
Several Sm57's
Several Sm58's
2 Beta 58
Peavey PVM 520i
Shure PG-52

condensors...
1 AKG C2000b
2 MK012's
a few Beta 87a's

Thanks alot :)

guitar amp - sm57

drums - 520i on kick sm57 on snare and toms and mk012's overheads

bass - 520i on amp and also a second track direct

on the horns id try the 520i first but thats just a wild guess.......

id listen to some music similar to what you wanna do with a good pair of headphones and listen real critically to where they have things panned......that should give you some idea......

oh i forgot to mention i'll have to record vox and backup too. and umm... i was actually doing that with some headphones earlier. trying to hear where everythin is.

thanks.

for lead vocals id do test tracks with the 57,58,betas,520i, and the akg and see which one fits the voice.......

okay, thanks for not being like "you need to go buy ect ect ect"...

not that it isnt welcome if someone has those kinds of suggestions... but i appreciate trying to help me work with what i have.
