Hi there,

was wondering how you would go about doing this. Would you just mic all the drums through the mixer then put it all through one channel?

Thanks!

So.... Why not go through 2 channels then?

And what type of music are you doing? If it is more of a jazzy thing I say forget the mixer and just put 1 mic where it sounds best. If it's rock....that's a different story.

If you need to do it with one channel, use a good condenser mic, like a Studio Projects B1 and a good mic preamp. Before you even place the mic, make sure the drums are dialed in (new heads, in tune, no rattles, all the squeeks oiled) and are positioned in a good sounding spot. When that's accomplished, try the mic in a couple positions (such as 3-6 feet back from the front of the drums, about 3 feet in the air, or above and behind the drummer, with the mic looking over the drummer's left shoulder, at the drums). If you decide you can spare two tracks for the drums, do both for a nice, big drum sound.

type of music

We mostly play rock-ish stuff when we record, so I will be able to use both channels through a mixer I guess. I'm gonna have to try it out in a few weeks!
