Good song, great tune! :)

How did you do the backup vocals? really like them... :)

The drums sounds good too!

Thank you all for your kind words. I just wanted to show that you can get a really good sound with the C1, and I mix the lead vocal too low! DOH!!
The backups are a stereo stack of 12 vocals on each track, panned hard left and right. With the minidisc, you can overdub indefinetly onto 1 track at a time because it can play and record on the same track at the same time. When recording I slowed the track down 2% and sang 12 of the same part on each of the 2 tracks. When I return to normal speed, any pitch problems from stacking usually disappear.
The Drums are a Zoom RT-323 Drum Machine through a RNC at 2:1 with very fast attack and release times (not in Supernice mode). The Zoom is OK, but the RNC adds the in your face punch.
Anyway, Thank you again for the kind words. You all made my day.

Great tune...great jangly guitars!...great snare..
great singing...great scream....great tune....the most important part!!

great job!

you did this with your eyeball hanging out??!?!?

Hi Mixmkr!
I somehow caught conjunctivitis and it's very contagious, so because I work in a lab where everyone works with a microscope, they kicked me out of work for a few days till it cleared up. So I wrote and recorded this tune while recovering at home, but my eyeballs were still in my head. I think Billy Idol could get me for the scream, though....
Thanx,
Carmen

Alan-

I'm a T3 owner and love it. So which of your compressors have the photo-optical hardware? Oh, when can we order one of your new hot Pre-Amps?

Thanks,

Jason

My problem with this particular mix is when played at a low volume, the vocal sits fine, but turn it up and it gets lost. I'll just do a quick remix tomorrow.
I'll squash the vocal slightly with the VC1Q and it'll be fine.
Thanx for the input.
C:)

I can't really hear the bass either.... maybe you can squash it some more and bring it up to add more punch to the song. :)

Wuh?

Sounds intriguing. Mind explaining the hows/whys a little more? Do you mean you recorded 24 different takes, panning half of them right and the other half left? What kind of pitch problems come from stacking? How does slowing it help?

I assume slowing 2% is something you can easily do on minidisc. Anyone ever tried slowing audio on a DAW based sequencer like Logic or Cubase?

BTW, the above link gives me "Access to this Briefcase has been disabled."

hey Carmen,

the Yahoo link doesn't work. i get either Briefcase does not exist or Briefcase is Disabled...

Hey!
This link will work. I just made a web page with the new mix on it. Guess I got too many hits on yahoo.

Ap,
You got it. I just have to turn a knob to adjust pitch +/- 12% on the Yamaha MD-8. Pitch problems occur when I sing and stack all those parts with the imperfect pitch of my voice. Slowing it down to track and then speeding it back to normal smoothes it out a bit and makes it sound more precise.

Not sure about Cubase, but in Nuendo, it's called time stretch. Very simple, very functional, lots of options. A little goes a long way though, over do it and it sounds like a record played at the wrong speed. It will mess with the pitch too, obviously, so you may have to do a pitch adjustment when using it.

Jason,

The Studio Project VTB-1 is only a mic pre. It has no compression or eq. As quoted by another, the RNC is a good unit, but it is a VCA, not a photo-optical.

There are many photo-optical units out there, but anyone can one. It is getting the circuity around the light cell correct, as that makes it sound great as well.

Since you asked, all the Joemeek units are photo-optical. Carmen has one who did this tune. It is my opinion that Joemeek makes the best sounding photo-optical unit out there. Of course this can be debated by other opinions, but all the big studios and engineers have Joemeek's.

So which one is right for you...you need to look at your budget and make a decision. I think if you look into the Rack thread on HR, Joemeek gets a very good response.

Carmen,
Nice tune. My daughter has pink eye. I am now hoping to get it so I have to stay home from work.:)

Michael Jones,

I just thought this is a great song and would get more exposure in the clinic.....nothin more....

i give up...what movie?....

It was Michelle Pfifer, Grease II. That was her first major Hollywood picture.

The green thing was a fluke, but it all became too late to change...anyway, it grows on you after a while, and I guess you know a Meek when you see one. :D

nope, not Tom Petty....that dude that sang the song "Breakfast at tiffany's"....anyone...anyone......

this tune rocks all the way around....awesome drum programming.....

All this talk about drum machines reminded me of a Tom Petty home video that I saw on VH1 in which the Heartbreaker drummer took a sledge to a drum machine in his hate. Funny stuff.
