Recorded quality of distorted guitar sound

Plug in: a software version of an effect. Installed generally as a third party (outside of the main recording program) utility that sort of loads itself to the recording program. Compare to Image editing software. The normal image program allows you to maybe resize and crop but the "plug in" would allow you to alter colors and shades.
