they came out FANTASTIC. i used 2 es 57s on the snare, and rvd-1 on the kick, and mc-012s as OHs.


this was the first time i've miked the top and bottom of the snare. before i only did the top and wasnt satisfied because it sounded like a tom. i found after last night that the majority of the sound was from the bottom. pretty ridiculous.


i'll post a clip later, gotta go to work.


the RVD-1 is INCREDIBLE.

the ES-57s were awesome as well.

I almost always mic the bottom of the snare, I love blending in the snare wires. I find micing parallel, i.e. down the length of the snare wires helps pick up more of the wires and less of the kit then when micing perpendicular. Also don't forget to flip the phase, the bottom is almost guaranteed to be out of phase with the top of the snare.
 
sorry to hijack the thread but i just upgraded from 4 to 8 inputs so i have a ton more options for drum tracking, but not too many extra mics. what would be best for an under snare mic out of what i have?
