I have been trying to record a stereo track in my digi-001 protoolsle. But I cant seem to get the settings right...it only comes in on the left channel. Ive tried looking at the mic line input but it only has mono options. Any help here would be great...

You can't record a stereo track. You have to do it as two mono tracks and pan 'em. Make sure you have the inputs set to L&R respectively.

Well I should have the latest version...I only got it about 2 weeks ago. But you have to be able to record an actual stereo track. I cant see the sense in combining two mono tracks to get a stereo.

It's been a while since I saw PT LE 5.1, but any 5.1.x should be able to give you bona fide stereo tracks; that was the whole point of 5.1, at least in LE (in TDM that was the version that surround capability came out, including the 5.1 surround, get it?). I may be actually acquiring a 001 in a few days, so I can help you more then if you don't find your answer.

Question for you: When you set up your track to be stereo, do you SEE level meters for both channels (and pan sliders) in your Mix Window? If so, something's probably wrong with how you've assigned your inputs.

If you DON'T see dual level meters etc. for your "stereo" channel in the Mix Window, then you probably didn't CREATE a stereo track. When you go into the (is it File or Edit?) scroll-down menu and pick "New Track," make sure you select the right TYPE of track in the appropriate drop-down menu (I think it's called "track type" or something; it's the same drop-down that you use to create a master fader, if that jogs memories). Don't select "2" tracks, as that will get you 2 mono tracks (and they both may be defaulting to input 1, or left-channel input).

Does this help? Is is too basic? Is it just plain damn wrong because I'm going off memory? Best of luck; let us know how it goes.

Hey there geekgurl.
I do see two led meters. Two pan thingies and all. But when I drop down the input panel all of the options are (mono) there arent any stereo selections. So I dont know what the...thanks for trying....

Sorry...Also I dont know if you could assign two different outputs to the same track and use that to get a stereo signal.

Hi Marty:

Well, I'll have my Digi 001 Factory in hand tomorrow so maybe I can see if I have anymore insight for you. Have you selected the "input" button-thingy and changed one of the inputs to the correct input on the Digi? For now that's all I can think of that might be amiss.

As for what you're suggesting above, not sure if I understand you correctly ... do you mean like Digi input 3 = left and Digi input 4 = right? I guess that would work. Is it necessary to have a stereo track then, instead of just linking (grouping) two channels together?

Oftentimes I use stereo tracks (in PT Free) to input SPDIF signal from my VS 880, then bounce to disk using dither to create a 16-bit 44.1 stereo WAV file for burning CDs. It works fine, but my I/O choices are much more limited than on the Digi. I may have more insight tomorrow ... or I may just be more confused.

Hey geek gurl...since we both have a digi-001 factory we should collaborate on something throught the internet.

It's been a little bit since I've touched PT, but there should be some kind of set up option that will allow you to have each track laid out as mono or stereo. I remember having that choice.

Sorry that's all the help I can be :)
