So I need a little help. Currently I'm recording drums with seven mics and leaving one mic open for a guitar scratch track. Im currently using one snare mic, 2 tom mics, kick mic, 2 overheads and a room mic. I would like to get another mic for my snare side head. Is there any obvious solution i have missed to fix my problem. Thanks.

You didn't really describe what the 'problem' is...?

If it's trying to figure out which mic to give up to bring in the bottom snare, maybe lose the room mic. Or try the recorderman mic'ing technique that will free up the 2 tom mics.

Unless your room is really, really, really good, forget the room mic.

I used a "modified" (explained later) recorderman on my last recording with good results. Only takes 4 mics.

The recorderman uses two stick lengths from the snare head to the mics. I had to use 3 stick lengths because my drummer has two floor toms and I didn't want him smacking my mic with his stick. :D I didn't really care that he hit my mic, I just didn't want it to ruin the recording. :p
