Record choir on top of backingtracks / phase invertipn

Hi,

I'm about to record a small childrens choir (8) to sing on some instrumental backing tracks I've made. I was thinking of buying headphone-splitters and a bunch of headsets, but then this guy I met told me the backingtracks could be phase-inverted to silence out leak from a monitor to the mics - so that the choir can have sound out of monitors instead of headsets.

I have never thought of phase-inversion this way. Should work. But anyone here have experience with this and could provide some info on how to do this exactly for best result? Is it recommendable to re-record the backingtracks through the mics etc? What are possible mistakes one can do?
