Four excellent VST freeware plugs

Paris EQ

SIR Reverb

Multiband Compressor
http://www.ismusic.ne.jp/slim_slow_slider/vst/

Blockfish Compressor/Limiter

And get the free Izotope Ozone mastering guide in pdf form from the Izotope site. It's a fantastic tutorial on fine points of EQ, compression, limiting, and reverb

Since N-track can also use DirectX plugs, these are good too, and low cost:

Dave Brown's Mastering Limiter, Multiband limiter, compressor
http://www.db-audioware.com/products.htm

Ozone processor bundle
http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/ozone/

I've use all of these and they're good.

In the non-freeware but not too expensive side I say anything by Voxengo.

This is very helpful. Lots of choices. I dont' mind paying for something thats worth it - I read the Waves Musicians's plugs are very good, for about $200- any comments?

Also - I need to learn about how to use various plugs and effects properly. Is there a primer out there somewhere, place to learn which ones to use on various music and how to use them? I'd like to use more than just presets.....
