All:

Would love to hear advice on how to monitor (thru headphones) while recording. All the patches kinda get to me...if I come back into a line in--feedback? I can come out to the tape in, but then--latency? Effects monitoring? I don't want suprises! I'm sure there's a *smart* way to do it, but I haven't figured it out yet.

Here's the rig...

Dell P4 2.4Ghz/512mbRAM/80GB HD/Windows XP sp2/EMU0404
BehringerUB802-->Alesis QS7.1/Electric guitar/Bass/and BOSS drum module.

Love the forum and thanks in advance.

I dont know any smart or dumb way, but all I can say is use good quality flat response headphones and make sure the talk back microphones are not routed into the printed track. Good luck

Sorry. I think you're talking about a real recording studio? It's just me and the 0404 in the upstairs loft. Really looking for schematical thoughts on routing/patching.

if you want to listen to tracks that you have already recorded while you play new tracks...send all of your pre-recorded tracks to one output and go from that output to one of the inputs on your mixer. the other input can be used to mic your instrument. then just use headphones from the mixers headphone out. use the insert on the back of the mixer to send the track being recorded to the soundcard...but make sure you only put the plug in half way...till it clicks once. This way the sound gets to the card and still goes through the mixer to your headphones.

let us know if this helps....

Thanks for your reply. I followed you right up til that last sentence. How does plugging it in half way allow it to get to the souncard, but not loop the rest of the stuff into the mix a 2nd time as well?
