Boy, you guys are on top of things. A couple of responses while
my addled brain were framing mine. It's cool to see things
settling down, otherwise you'd have me posting an MP3-
"Come On People Now, Smile On Your Brother". Once I learn
to do that of course! (the MP3, not the singing that is)
alan, being a huge fan of "The Sopranos", there ARE times when Tony's methods appeal to me! (Not than I'm criminally
minded either)

P.S. The mere thought of having zoetrope cross examine me
has caused me to severely restrict my intake of fluids.
The sodium penethol does concern me though.

MrZekeman, I'll try to post those stories by tonight-hey I've got
some work to do! (thanks for asking)

chessparov,

Well now that you mention it, I lived down the block from Carlo Gambino and his family...the real Godfather. I lived in a town called Massapequa, Long Island, NY, during my teenage years, so I know all about "The Sopranos" for real. I grew up in Bay Ridge Brooklyn as a kid before moving to the Island.

Bay Ridge was a tough neighborhood, so that's why I am a bit overbearing because if I was not, I would get my ass beat up all the time. I figured it was better to do the beating up, then get beat up. Those days are long gone, but I had fun playing stickball in the streets and showing off my consistent black eyes.

I left in 1974 before I got myself into deeper trouble, but my brothers still defend all those bad boys in New York, and me...I became a mellow guy. HA! :D

To paraphrase Godfather III, "just when I think it's safe to stop
posting they pull me back in". My uncle was drinking buddies
with Mickey Cohen. Mickey's claim (true or not) was that he never put a hit on anyone. He was old school-numbers, prostitution,
and loan sharking. A real "good fellow", no hard drugs. That's
why "Hollywood Confidential" cracked me up as if he was the
second coming of Al Capone. To keep thing on topic, bad news
for alan-the FBI has determined the "lampshade" version of the
C1 is too big and heavy as a bugging device (for bbs moderators
and rival manufacturers-another story). Good news for mobsters
though, they're so solidly built that they made concrete shoes
obsolete as witness protection attire!

I believe we need another thread questioning the best mic under $500.

MrZeke, I posted those stories in the Cave, under the title "Chicken Soup For Rock & Roll". If anyone wants to add
any of their own feel free. And remember, never let the truth
stand in the way of a good story!

THE INFAMOUS C1

I'm getting pretty close to buying a large diaphraghm condensor for both vocals and guitar. The CI might be it.

Maybe just for the fact that ALAN is alive and here on the board.Approachable whenever needed. That's gotta be a good thing. THIS FUCKIN THING BETTER BE ORGANIC.!!!!

Hi folks, I just got the mic, have only had a little time to play with it, will post more after I have had the time, but for now it sounds GREAT!!!. What a difference from my old trusty Shure dynamic mic.

More later when I have the time, (late) lunch is here!

I cannot comment on my work for the Brancato family in KC. But I do like the C1.

Gentlemen, light your flame throwers

Well, I got my C1 today....was really excited...plug it into my mixer, and voila!!! An extremely weak output. I thought "this can't be right", so I tried another mic cable and got the same result...then I thought maybe there was a problem with the mixer, so I hooked up my MXL-603s with the mixer settings unchanged, and it sounded very loud like it should. The mixer is a Mackie 1202VLZ Pro, cable is a Monster Cable Studiolink500, EQ is straight up, trim was halfway up at 30, gain at unity. I realize it's hard to keep a steady volume with just your voice so this is not truly scientific, but it shouldn't be too far off. I also played an MP3 file and stuck both mics up fairly close to the speaker at the same part of the song and had the same results. On the voice test I was about 3 inches from both mics...no pop filter. I gave the C1 about 3 minutes before I started the test....I sang into the sides, back, and end as well as the front (logo side), just to see the differences (the front side is where the test results were done). On the meter the 603s held at about +7dbu and the C1 was between -7 and -10 dbu....quite a drop....about half of the meter.

Maybe I just got a bad mic, I don't know....I can't see that anyone would like the mic that I have....to its credit, it does have a nice transparent high end....just a little too "transparent" on the output

The bad part is, I can't return it...I got it from Music Center Inc. which has a 30 day policy, but unfortunately doesn't cover mics (health reasons.....)

Alan, I'm not trying to make you look bad, and I appreciate all your input on this board, but this is not a good mic....at least mine is not.

Return policy on mics usually doesnt apply to defective ones.....u should be able to get another one....

Gidge,

I'm gonna call them tomorrow and see what I can do....you may be right...I went to their website and they said they didn't take returns on mics, but I don't know if they are differentiating between defective mics and mics people changed their minds on. We'll see....

Queue,

Yeah, I gotta think I just got a bad one....I can't believe that anybody would praise these mics if they're like the one I got...

If they wont take back a defective mic, Im sure Alan can help ya...Im not one of the guys running around creaming in my pants over the C1....but Ive heard it and it sounds nice...very similar to my Marshall MXLv67.....I would guess if your results are that bad, its defective.....

audio technica 4033...its a little bassy but thats what i use. someone told me its good for female vocals but i like it on males though.

one of the guys running around creaming in my pants over the C1....

Hey Gidge, I resemble that remark :D (who used to say that?)

Wait, lemme check, ....so sorry.... pants are w/o cream...

Well, I can't say what has happened, but output should not be a problem with a C1. We have only had one defective C1 since we started shipping, so maybe yours is #2.

In either case, we will make sure the mic is what it is supposed to be, so you can rest assure that we stand behind the mic. I can't give you your money back, but if it is broken, I can fix it, or replace it.

Give us a call at 1877-563-6335, and ask for Justin as I will be out of town this week. He will give you an ATR# to get it back to us, and we will take care of it if it turns out that it does have a problem
