i just purchased a pair of Yorkville YSM1 speakers to mix with. What power amp do y'all recommend? i will only be powering them (70W/speaker).

Also, do i need specific cables for the speakers?

Id suggest a Hafler TA1100 or TA1600......

I use a TA1100 on a pair of ProtoJ's which are very similar to the YSM1's and it works great.......

I use the TA 1600 to power my KRK Rokits and would buy the same amp again. I'd go with the P3000 if I could afford it.

Hafler makes good affordable power amps. I would spring for the P series like mentioned above if you can. Otherwise if you have a higher budget, look for a used Bryston 3b or 4b amp. The Brystons do have a 20 year transferable warranty so it should be a safe buy.

Also, could someone tell me what kind of cables i need? i know i can't use stereo cables or RCA jacks...fill me in!
