4 analog channel inputs, either RCA, XLR or TRS connections

And

An a Lightpipe so i can record to Portable MiniDisc if this is possible. If not, how else can i get a Lightpipe in my computer to record to my minidisc?

Cheers Guys,

Nathan.

To record to your minidisk I believe you need a soundcard with an optical spdif i/o (toslink). This is not lightpipe which refers to an optical adat i/o.

An ST-Audio C-port meets your requirements.

thanks mate...

where in australia are you?

This is me just checking on some info that has been in my head...

Light pipe transmits up to 8 separate channels?

Optical spdif transmits 2 separat channels, or is it 5 (ie surround sound).

Just curious..

i dunno...

is there a converter i could connect to RCA SPDIF plugs that would convert it to toslink optical?

Porter you got it right.

Standard adat (lightpipe) allows for 8 channels of 24/48 (48khz is max sample rate). Manufacturers have come up with ways to allow 8 channels of 24/96 using S/MUX or something but I am not clear on the details.

SPDIF allows 2 channels of 24/96 (though I believe technically the original spdif standard didnt allow for sample rates above 48khz).

SPDIF also allows the transmission of dolby/dts encoded signals (ie surround sound) which squeeze in all the extra channels through lossy compression/encoding.

There are. I think jaycar or tandy has some for Aus$40 - either optical->coaxial or vice versa. M-Audio make one (CO2) that does both but costs alot more.

For Aus$45 you can get an Aopen AW850 deluxe soundcard (Cmedia 8738 chipset) which has both optical and coaxial i/o. It can be used as a optical <-> coaxial converter and can perform bit perfect transfers of 24 bit data at either 44.1 or 48khz in and out of your computer (with no resampling).

ZiggY!,

oh hey porter! im from the sutherland shire :) south sydney

I think i may just grab an m-audio delta 66 or an audiophile (still havent decided how many analog inputs i'll need and a CO-2 converter...

that should cover my needs!

You can get a terratec ewx24/96 for Aus$400 from www.turramusic.com.au and other places. It is the same as an Audiophile except it has optical i/o (which you need) instead of coaxial i/o on the audiophile.
