it was a demo i did back over the summer for my a couple of my friend's band. this is probably the thickest mix i've done and just wondering what you guys thought. i know the limiting may be a little over the top, but the guys just wanted it to be loud and didnt care if it sounded like a brick.
i used REAPER to track, mix, and master this. i used four drum mics in the recorderman configuration (i know the toms are a little low in the mix too, oh well, the band didnt mind.) I used a kickball for the bass drum and a peavy pvm-325 for the snare. i triggered a really low (40hz) electronic bass drum under the real bass drum for some extra low end.
i stereo mic'ed each guitar then stereo tracked a third guitar with a sample delay panned hard left/right. the guys had some pretty bad amps so i had to work pretty hard to get good tones out of them. one guy had an epiphone sg through an old peavy 15" combo with a metalzone in front of it and the other kid had a (get this) samick strat copy through a digitech floor fx unit thing through a fender fm series 2x12. it was a hassle to get the guitars to sound good, but i convinced them that the third track would sound better through my laney 2x10, so i at least had something to work with. the bass was direct mixed with a close mic'ed signal.
just wondering what you guys think
oh yeah the digital delay and whammy bar down to the floor are an intro thing
also, there are some artifacts where my laptop skipped for the drum tracks (i did them on site at their practice space and thought my laptop could cut it)
