hey which software do you prefer?? let the discussion begin... audio recording facilities are at poor standards in both products would you agree?... Can reason be used as VSTi?? if soo how? and what does rewire mean? ! ?

I used Fruity Loops 4 until the day I discovered Reason. I'll admit I was no expert with Fruity Loops, but I was mildly competent. But Reason is, at least in my experience, far more versatile.

Rewire is an interface whereby you can "connect" multitrack software to a program such as Reason or Fruity Loops. For example, I use Sonar 5 and Reason together. When I insert Reason as a Rewire device into a Sonar project, Reason opens up and is now controlled by Sonar. They work in tandem. If I press play in Sonar, it plays in Reason and vice versa. All MIDI routing is then done through Sonar to Reason (which can be a pain sometimes, but oh well). It's very handy because it lets you do all of your recorded audio in one program and hear all of your synth work simultaneously.

thats sounds like a top idea!!! is rewire an actual software you can buy??

Neither.

Just bought Cakewalk Project 5 - much more intuitive to use than FL Studio and supports DXi's and VSTi's (unlike Reason).

Heck, I'd take P5 over Ableton Live based on price alone! $199 for P5 and $400+ for Live 6.

No, it's just something built into certain software. I believe it was developed by Propellerhead, the guys who do Reason. I'm not sure of all the programs that support it, but I know that both Reason and Fruity Loops do. I'm pretty sure that most multitrack software supports it. So you shouldn't have a problem getting it set up.

I've never tried out Project 5. I may look at a demo version now.
