I am going to be getting an mbox for mainly recording acoustic and vocal stuff. I want to use reason to make drum loops for my acoustic stuff and also occasionaly make techno stuff or hip/hop beats that me and my friends could have a little fun rapping to ;) Will reason adapted be powerful enough for this or should I upgrade to the full version?

Reason Adapted should be ok. on the version I saw, you get 1 drum machine(10 banks for samples), 1 sequencer, 1 synth, 2 samplers, 1 Dr. rex and a few effects. you cannot create or delete any sound modules or effects. you can load whatever samples, patches, or loops you want. I bet in the future, though, you'll probably want to expand from that. lots of great toys in Reason...Guitar Center has 2.5 for $200 I think since 3.0 just came out.

The version of Reason Adapted are very different. The one I have doesn't include Dr Rex, for example.

Adapted is really limited I think, it'll work for getting ideas down, but for serious production they really turned off so much functionality that you're more or less handcuffed. It's thrown in really as a demo to entice you to buy the real thing. I don't know what the current price is, but an upgrade to 2.5 for Adapted users was less than the full price last time I checked.

Yeah, thats the real benefit. It's quite a big difference. 100-200 dollars or so, if i remember correctly.

Alright I made my decision. Tell me if you think I got a good deal. I paid a total of $450 for the following:

used mbox with all plugins unregistered except live (which means I won't be able to use live)
PTLE that came with mbox was 5.3.3 so I had to buy the 6.7 upgrade
full version of reason 2.5 with a drum refill pack
m-audio oxygen8 midi keyboard
pro tools book

I haven't recieved it yet but the guy I bought it from was very helpful and filled out the transfer of ownership documentation for PTLE/mbox and reason.

Did I get a good deal?
