Reaper Tempo Markers & Envelopes

I'm trying to use them to vary the tempo, but they don't seem to work for me.

The envelope does nothing after inserting points - no tempo change at all.
The markers are also troublesome, sometimes working, mostly not.

Are there any tips to get these to work?

Have you watched Kenny's video? That's a good step-by-step. With stuff like this, I usually set the video up on my laptop next to Reaper on my desktop. This way, I can pause after each step to make sure I don't miss anything.

Did you try Insert>Tempo/Time marker to insert your markers? From there, you can edit the tempo, time signature, etc.

Tried this - also a weird result:
There is one inserted at the start of the song by the program (usually 120 bpm.)
If I insert another after this with a different bpm (say 100 bpm) it does nothing.
But if I insert one after that one, (say 40 bpm) the whole song from the start plays at that bpm, and is no longer at 120 bpm.

Not even sure I should be dealing with bpm's in the first place, so tried setting the project default to 'time' instead, but the result is the same - no result.

Who knows? (Maybe it's a mac thing.)

I'm just trying to get this straight in my head which approach is needed. After re-reading your reply (above), I believe I assumed you were looking to correct existing tempo fluctuations. But now it appears you are trying to do the opposite - introduce tempo fluctuations into a steady track. Or am I just not getting this at all?

As an example. . do you want to take a track of 120 BPM start to finish and introduce bars of different tempos along the way? Start at 120 BPM, change bar 13 to 112 BPM, then bar 20 back to 120 BPM, then bar 45 to 96 BPM and bar 64 back to 120 BPM for the rest of the song?

The song speeds up noticeably as it progresses to the choruses.
I need to slow it down at those places.

OK. That puts me back where we started and that didn't work for you.

Are you tryig to speed up already recorded audio, or speed up a midi track. If you are trying the former, just changing the tempo markers won't affect the audio.

This is a more straight forward method applied to a single track.

Thanks, though that's too involved for a simple song.
(I guess Reaper is not the program for this type of adjustment.)

Was able to get this to work by splitting each section that accelerated and changing the playback rate in the 'item properties' box.
Very slow and labor intensive, and noticed some tracks did not follow suit; while others did, though their volume envelopes did not.

(A far better solution would be to use a drummer that can actually keep time.)
