This is probably a dumbass question but here goes........
Is it possible to use a reverb plugin on an audio track so I can hear reverb on my vocals as I record them?
I'm using Sonar 5.

Thanks :)

not without the latency driving you absolutely crazy

Sonar has that live echo capability but when you playback it won't be there. If you have inserts on your interface or mixer, Just pick up a used lexicon on ebay for 100-200 bucks. Their reverbs sound wonderful. Or even something cheaper if thats out of your budget.

If you can stand working without reverb, I would encourage it. Reverb can affect your sense of pitch.

On some songs, when tracking, sometimes I like reverb to rest the vocals against. I can push more into the delivery. For this I use an outboard effect that I feed into the phones but do not record.

Yes you can!

Of course you can!

I run Sonar3 at 2.9ms latency and you can't even notice it.

If your computer is strong enough you can run multiple plugs at real time.

When you playback the reverb will be there also, contrary to a previous post.
You can remove it or adjust it at any time you want.

If you want the real scoop on what Sonar can do ask your questions in the Cakewalk forum.

Reverb tends to be very resource intensive so either: Get a lexion MX200, I got mine for 180 and its a very decent unit. You can record dry and just use the reverb in your monitoring chain (you really do not want to record with reverb into the track) or find a very slim reverb and use it to record, then change it for something better later

Cakewalk forum.

I didnt know Sonar had realtime reverbs but thats pretty cool. I was referring to the echo button in Sonar though. You know the one that sounds like echo and not reverb.

Sonar has had realtime reverb since version one.
The button you are refering to is not an echo button rather an input monitoring button. When a person doesn't set up their recording chain right it can sound like an echo.

If you've got a very weak computer reverb should bog it down, but I used to run a few plugs at very low latency with a P3 933.Now I have a P4 2.4 and I don't even think twice about adding plugs.
I've heard quite a bit about the MX200,but it had better sound a lot better than the plugins for that price and only being able to run one instance as opposed to multiple instances with software.Depending on the computer situation the money could be better spent on a CPU upgrade.

I monitor with reverb all the time, but I never print it,that is the great advantage of working in the box.
