Hey guys.
What I need to do, is make a recorded sample 'dive', as if a guitar whammy bar has been used on it, but for vocals. It's hard to explain, so I'll link you guys to some good examples.

I can't post links yet, so just stick the provided url after the .com on youtube.

IKTPQ - Say Goodbye (guitar, 1:59)
watch?v=WyMx_9lSD8g

MIW - Immaculate Misconception (vocals, 2:48)
watch?v=k_Bc8-9z0Rc

I've tried many methods but nothing seems to work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks guys. Ben x

some guitar pedals should able to do that but you will have to tweak them in real time, search for pitch shifter, octaver pedals... korg kaoss pad should be able to do that also

I was thinking more software than hardware, because all of the samples have already been recorded.
Anything you know of?
Cheers x

What software are you using? Many DAWs have a pitch bend effect.

Reaper. If that doesn't have the ability to bend pitch, is there any VST's I would be able to get to do it?
I'll have another rummage in Reaper, see what I can find.
Cheers x

Say Ben...

Are these kisses you're ending your posts with a seasonal thing, or are you just a friendly guy? :D

Only suggestion I have is to route your signal/sample through a guitar effects device, as already mentioned... sorry!

Aha, bit of both. :)

What guitar effects device would be able to do this kind of thing then? I have a load of pedals, I'm not sure whether they'll be able to be programmed to pitchshift though. D:

Digitech "Whammy" pedal is a very pro-standard dedicated pitch shifter (and all sorts of other spacey cool toys it throws in too). Lots of big name guitarists use it as part of their rig. Beyond that, most guitar multi-effectors with a built-in expression pedal nowadays allow it to be assigned to an effect parameter instead of just wah/vol any more. I think there's Digitech and Zoom ones for under 100 bucks but they might be a little hissy. The Whammy Pedal is really a quality pedal, but it is more pricey. Beyond that, there's a few floorboard dedicated vocal effects multi-pedals by DOD, digitech, and I think boss had one too a while back. In general these get mixed reviews and are most often intended for live use in place of a soundman (for the control-freak vocalist types)

Like ATM says....

Anything by way of a guitar pedal that does this will have an actual pedal on it (like a wah wah type thing, not a stomp switch) so you'd know if you had one.

I've got a Boss GT10 that does it and previously had a Digitech m/e pedal that did it as well..

There must be a software solution out there though... hang in there...!

You might consider closing this thread and trying to ask the same question in one of the other forums - Recording techniques or something else... you might have access to people who don't routinely frequent the Newbies forum.

Good luck..

Thanks guys. :)
I'll close this thread and go and ask someone over in a more software based forum.
Much appreciated, at least I have one option now.

Cheers x
