As we all know Sonar runs on a computer and they are noisy as fuck...i don't have the luxury of a sound proof booth so i was wondering if sonar has real time gating to make it so that the mic won't pick up the computer noise(as much anyway)

i got the Waves Gold and TC Bundle...does 2 pricey better be able to do it if sonar has the capability in the first place

realt time, as in while your singing?
I'm afraid not. You can apply 'real time' effects, after the fact.

They're real time in the sense that you can mess with em during a playback but not while you're recording I beleive. We use noise gates all the time, as we're in a similar situation to yourself.

As I understand, you don't want the noise to ever reach your track .. and as such you don't want to apply an 'affter the fact' noise gate to reprocess your audio track.

I think you're gong to have to shop for a hardware noise gate.

It's not that expensive and will ensure that noise never gets to your track. If you want to spare the expense, just apply a noise gate plugin after the track has been laid down and you could tweak the parameters of the plugin during playback.

Hope hat helps!

that questions like asking how much does mixing software cost.
:-)

You get what you pay for!

BTW:

I have made the mistake of findling with my meters, completely frustrated that the noise was so high, not realizing that I was less than 3 feet from my tower and my monitor.

So I stepped back about ten feet.

I then proceed to turn my guitar's volume full tilt and i'm not even generating noise at -42dB's on my sound card's inputs. (I was in my heavy metal solo setting, so there's usually some noise)

You can also put a blanket on the PC if the 'noise' you're referring to is the actual mechanical noise from the PC.

Can you try these thing before rushing out and spending your money?

yeah that's a good idea

personally i can't do this .. i'm in an appartment. .. but it's probably the best solution.

So just ask your neighbor if he doesn't mind you putting your computer in his closet!
Problem solved!
