ok i feel really stupid about this....
i just got my imac G5 today and i am wondering how to install VST plugins for cubase LE does any body know? thanks guys :o :o :o :o

Put the CD for your VST plugins in your CD Rom and run the installer:D

nope

these are the freeware ones you download like phatfish and stuff like that...

Usually you drag the .dll file into the vst folder of your host program. Or copy it there.

As Dogman said, you will want to copy the dlls into the directory Cubase has selected as being its VST directory. In my case, that is C:\Program Files\Steinberg\Vstplugins

You will then need to have Cubase rescan to re-register the plugins.

Sorry, I didn't mean for my post to sound fecetious. It just seemed like the only answer to your question at the time:) If the plugins do not have an installer and only have dll files, than the others suggestiopns are right. If you do it before you open Cubase, then when you do, Cubase should automatically recognize the plugins for you:)

you shouldn't have .dll files on a mac
and the extention would be Applications/Steinburg......etc

Tx vigor, I had forgotten that the original post mentioned a G5:D

I guess you learn something new everyday. Never having used a mac, I didn't know this. Now I do. Cool, and thanks.

Not being a mac guy, I was not aware of this. What would the extension of these be? (.so?). I assume extensions in the above context means filename extension. Or do they use magic numbers or some such?

magic numbers, lol. They use 3 letter .___ extentions, I'm not sure what is the equivelant of a .dll file. I know that all the important folders are in you library. Not sure exactly what they are called. But there are serparate folders for your programs in the "applications" and "library" folders.

Actually, some OSs such as unix use magic numbers. A file's type is not indicated by extension but rather by the first certain number of bytes in the file which are expected to fit a certain pattern.

All I can say about magic numbers and mac os, is I did learn some different stuff from you guys. I had never given thought to the file extensions before, as I have always used windows. Interesting stuff. I will have to read up on some of this later, as now my curiousity has been peaked. Thanks dudes.

thanks guys

thanks guys i had to find the folders and all that but once i got them in there no broblems i do wish that i could get more free plugins like i can for my windows copy of cubase though... oh well i guess that i will have to just deal with it. i do thank you guys for taking the time to make comments. this is my first time dealing with mac and its all new to me :D i like it though

Do a search here for free plugins - there was a couple of threads that listed sites where these could be found.

thanks

i have got a few good ones now. after i did a google search. the fish plugs are very nice as well as a free reverb, now all i want is a good EQ or two.
other than that i do not use much maybe some delay is all.

Usually VST plugs under Mac OS X can go in any of:

/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/
$HOME/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/

(i.e. either the Library/Audio/Plug-Ins at the root level of your hard drive or the one in your home directory). That said, different DAWs work differently, and some do use their own DAW-specific folder. Not sure about that one in particular.
