Hey guys my 21st bithday was on sat and my family was kind enough to buy me a pair of Event TR 8 monitors. My question is do I need speaker cables or will regular instument cables work. Seems like a really simple thing but i just want to make sure I don't mess anything up.

Thanks

If they are powered TRS, if not, Speaker.

Crazy, instrument cables are generally used for instruments......

i like xlr

those are nice monitors, and you will like them. remember that any new speaker has a break-in period, sometimes up to 100 hours or even more. dont judge them straight away.

Thanks guys.

What is the difference in sound quality from the XLR input to the 1/4 inch?

What are some characteristic sound qualities that occur when a speaker is breaking in?

There is a audible hiss when you turn the speakers on and weird digital scratches when the computer is "thinking".. is that normal?

Thanks for the help

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think there will be any sound difference between the 2 cables.

The "digital scratches when the computer is "thinking"" is usually the hard drive. Sometimes, if it has one of those old onboard/built-in sound cards, you can hear it through the speakers. Definitely not ideal. I've only heard this on really old computers though.

If you hear that then I'd get a different sound card and disable the onboard one.

What are your computer specs? CPU? RAM? Hard drive? Sound card?

If the 1/4" is TRS it will be EXACTLY the same as an XLR. If it's unbalanced, then it would be somewhat different depending on the length of the run, and what kind of balancing was employed in the two units being connected. Unbalanced can sound better.......

My computer is rather pathetic. 1.2 gigahertz 512 Ram 120 gig HD and I am using a Firepod.

I was over at my friends who is very smart when it comes to computers and we looked up how much a fantastic computer for audio recording and editing would be. Top of the line right now he priced at about a grand with casing and power supply and all that ( tower only). Thats a hell of alot of money but my computer is my weakest link right now.

Does anyone have any computer parts lying around?

Also one of my volume knobs is scratchy on my Firepod, whats the best way to clean it?

Well I am pretty sure i have some bad news. One of my monitors is defective. Unless there is some setting I am overlooking then I think I am right. One of them has a very distorted high end, not to noticeable on some tracks but very on others. There is a part where there is just clean electric and panning hard right it sounds good, then panning hard left( the defective monitor) there is a high end distortion, anybody have any issues like this? My family ordered it from 123music.com so it looks as though I am going to have to ship it back and wait for another one, damn.

Are your monitors DEAD silent when not playing anything? right when you turn these on there is a high hiss you would get if you turned up a regular stereo system with no music playing. I swear there have been a million obsicles in equipment and software.
