really need help on drums...Help!!!

im redoing the drums i recorded for this band..im using my pc (sound card)..i have a behringer mixer 4 mono 2 stereo...i was toled to do a submix of the drums..how can i compress and noise gate before the mix... i have an art sgx 2000 effects processor with what i need..is there a way i can link up and pan with the effect...im gonna try using 3 mics this time to focus on not to many mics i felt the last mix was to many mics (11) and different eq's that made the snare toms etc.. out of place and not enough presence...im thinking on adding reverb after on the whole kit but i heard its not good to noise gate or compress before..thanx a million...

11! how did you patch all those into the behringer?

The SGX2000 looks like more of a guitar processor, but maybe you can put to some use, after recording. I woudn't bother using it down to tape.

What's the rest of your setup? Do you have a multi input/output soundcard, what recording software, what choices do you have for mics? If it's your normal PC soundcard, i.e. the one that came with it you will need to be able to access the L/R inputs individually. Anyway, more info please.

try one mike on the snare,one on the kick (both center pan)and a stereo pair overhead;submixed through the mixer to the pc.
Be very careful with reverb on drums,maybe just a touch on the snare.I would compress the shit out of the snare and kick (either aux or channel inserts)and leave the overheads be (cymbals sound funny compressed-whomp whomp).
If you are tracking the drums separately,a noise gate shouldn't be needed.Or maybe you are going for that famous Phil Collins reverse gate on the snare.

Aux sends and returns for efx if you have the capability.
Highly unlikely you've got channel inserts on that baby behringer.

i thought maybe the noise gate can take out the raddling in the drums..or like i put a mic on the bass kick..the snare by it self bleeds in the bass kick mic..how can i prevent these things...or raddle in the toms..my effects on the aux stay in the center and my original raw sound pans only..let me know if im on the right track..compress and reverb before recording..eqing im confused..i guess it shouldnt be that hard with 4 mics..but is it worth it..can i get a good sound without it..and then i would just record on a stereo file..and i shouldn't have to do a thing after its recorded on a stereo track..???????????
