Hey guys...

I was just wondering if anyone knows a good technique to get that really dead tom sound. USually used in screamo and stuff.

http://www.purevolume.com/hopelessendeavor chapter 3 is the sound im curious about. I know this isnt the best sample. It was done at a local rock studio. But im curious if anyone has any ideas.
Thanks

I can never get those damn (PV-PP) players to work...

Anyway, if you're looking for a pretty dead "thud" sound, use hydraulics (clear Remo pinstripes are great) and make a triangle on the head (the same size as the head) with 1" wide gaff tape.

You'll get "thwap" and "thud" but no ring for the most part. If there are bottom heads, they may require similar treatment.

For a really nice deep thud with very little decay (Think early Iron Maiden or Metallica), try taking 2-3 sheets of paper towel and folding it them into a rectangle approx. 2 in x 4 in, and tape this near the very edge of the head on the backside (inside the tom). I use Duct tape for this, and use REMO Emporer (Extremely thick heads). For best results don't use the bottom head at all. Experiment with size, and placement (example: I have found that 16" and 18" floor times, often require 2 or 3 equally spaced 3in x 3 in squares).

thanks guys... figured it would have to do with some sort of towel product and tape.... ill try it out and let you know.

and massive its ok... my computer teases me with them haha.. sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt.
