Hey guys, So I'm thinking of building a large swingable wall to create a 3-walled room/booth that I can potentially treat for recording mostly acoustic guitar.

The current plan is to simply build a 6'wide by 6'-8' tall (havn't decided how tall yet, using standard wall building materials/technique (2x4's or 2x3's, drywall, etc) This new wall will be 3-hinged onto a corner (like a standard door) and will likely be mounted on caster wheels. The plan is then to sound treat the walls (including the new swingable wall)

The reason I am thinking about doing this is because most of my basement studio is carpeted (or has rugs), and I don't really have a dedicated recording area. The large desk in the picture and all the equipment you see really doesn't need to be there, I can move all of it out and mount the TV on the wall it sits in front of. Doing all of that will create a lot of space to record acoustic guitar on the paneled floor and potentially create a better "room-sound" for recording.

I have a bunch of questions though, since I'm not an expert in really ANYTHING when it comes to home recording

1. Most importantly, is this WORTH doing? I know that is a VERY subjective question, but just from an X's and O's of sound perspective, will I have a noticeable increase in natural room reverb, and whatever other benefits I would have by recording in a semi-room vs just recording into open space? Cost isn''t an issue (materials will be about $150 total, not including sound treatment) I just want some opinions on it being worthwhile.

2. What can I, can I not expect to change recording wise if I do this (and do it well)

3. How would I go about sound-treating this new 3-walled booth?

4. Should I just use standard drywall or use a different material for the swingable wall?

5. How tall should the wall be? As tall as possible to reach my ceiling? (8 feet)

Any comments/suggestions you guys can give me will be GREATLY appreciated and I will check on this thread regularly. My dad is coming into town this weekend and I plan on getting started then.

if i was you ide mount that tv buy a better desk get some guitar mounts and and make the place look neat cleanliness is next to godliness

So I understand that you want to screw the swingable wall to the "real" wall? Why? Why not just make independent treatments you can move whereever you need/want.

Another problem I see is that every time you want to move the wall you have to move all the mics, chairs and mess up positions just to see how it sounds the best (the wall in/out).
