I read in a Swedish magazine (Fuzz) about a guy that used the following setup:

guitar -> tube amp (speaker out) -> power attenuator -> sound card -> guitar rig (using only "cabinets & mics")

He claimed that this setup produced a sound that he could easily use on any professional recording. Did anyone try this or any other similar setup? Is it possible to get a decent (or even better) tone by using a real amp combined with "digital micing"/"cabinet simulation"??

Equipment he used:
THD Flexi-50 amp
THD Hot Plate power attenuator
Native Instruments Guitar Rig software

this is one of those things that is purely a matter of taste. its not "better" or "worse".

Sorry I meant "better or worse than purely using Guitar Rig, PODxt or any other simulation unit".

Isnt that just like using a guitar stomp box for your desired effect with a real amp? The stomp box is like the pod?

He's probably using the 'Line Out' on the Flexi and only using the Cab simulator on Guitar Rig and nothingn else.
it probably does sound pretty good
