GET THE REAL THING!!!!

OK, if you need votes put me down for real CDs. This is my one and only shot at stardom, so as far as I'm concerned the more professional looking the job is the better. :D

I offered to put up a little more money just to help out but since you're not crazy about that idea I'll pre-order another set. I should be able to pick up a money order today or tomorrow.

I second this. If you decide on the real CD's I will pre order perhaps one......... perhaps two more.

Ok, well hold off a bit...

I'm going to make sure that this quote is real before doing anything else. There was no mention of film charges or glass master....nor overrun. I did ask in my original quote request though....but just in case I emailed them again last night to give me an exact breakdown.

Slack,

Who are you talking to about replication?

C

Go for the CDs. In my opinion the better they look the more chance there is for someone to be over at a friend's house listening and want one for themself.
It might sound crazy, but to some people the more professional they look the better they will sound.

I am curious about one thing.....I get blank CDRs at my local Sam's for about 50 cents apiece. Why are yours costing $1.19?

Because that $1.19 apiece is for duplication and printing on the CD. That's not the cost of the actual CDR.

I vote CD's. You're getting a better product AND screenprinting for .06c a copy. Pretty good deal.

Okay, so I'll go with real CD's. It makes 'em look more pro. I'm sure both have their own breath & fart :) .

if we go with the 300, what will be the total cost, counting printing, cases, etc etc?.....

did you hear back from that place to see if that quote was accurate?

The place with that particular quote was shitty.

However, I found a place that looks really great, and was on a recommended list (somewhere). Their on-site pricing info stated 300 @ 1.21 each (x3 of course)! I wrote them for a full quote on the project.

Still up in the air are jewel cases and inserts. The jewels that I wanted to use probably aren't going to work because they don't have a spine.

sorry, but Im in a bugging mood today.....

are we going with 3 CD's just for 44 MB?

I know what your answer will be but ill ask anyway....would it be possible for those that wanted a second contribution to send one in to fill this dude up?

If you check the status page, you'll see that we are 144MB over 2 CD's (700MB real CD's are out of the question, 650 only).

This is without at *least* two more incoming submissions and one submission that had a bad CD. So figure on that 3rd CD space being around half full.

Also consider song gaps and the fact that fitting songs onto a CD in perfect 74 minute chunks is impossible.

It's looking like we'll have ~13-14 songs per CD.

Thanks gidgey!

ok, dumb ass Cajun was thinking 700mb CD's and i thought all contributions were in....nevermind:p

that sounds snug as a bug in a rug:D

what kind of price are you looking to pay for a slim triple CD jewel case?....Ive got some free time on my hands right now if you want me to google around.........

(can anyone tell Im bored?)

Thanks. The wife has been doing pricing research for me.

Problem is that I can't use the slim 3CD cases she found. One was just cheesy and the other had no spine.

I got a sample in of a standard chubby 3 CD case that might work. That's more expensive though because we need double tray liners + a booklet. The chubby (har har) iteself is only like 0.30-0.50.

Real ones

I vote for real cds all the way. We just need to promote the cd a little bit. Here are some ideas I have for that. Maybe you've already thought of some of these Slack but here they are anyway:

1. I imagine that several of the submitters have websites of their own...get them to volunteer to advertise the comp cd or put a link to a purchase page from their sites.

2. In addition to the banner ads, we write an article about the concept behind the comp cds and advertise them from the front page of homerecording.com if Dragon is willing.

3. Have mp3 samples from the comp in some conspicuous place on this site.

4. Have a way for any random visitor to homerecording.com to order comp cds by credit card on a whim....CDstreet is an option for this.

5. Submit the comp cds to some online ezines for review.

Just some ideas. If the cd ever becomes slightly profitable I think you should get a cut for your time and effort Slack.
I'm all for real ones as I mentioned above.

Fantastic ideas man!!!

MP3 samples will definately be going up here and maybe at nowhere if waldo's up for it. Might even talk to him about some sort of publicity exchange.

We already take credit cards via pay pal. I know that's not optimal, but it's the best deal. CDStreet and Amazon and similar services charge from 11-15%. Paypal charges 2.9% on credit card orders. I tried getting a merchant account but I have to be a real business :(

I will definately ask other members about advertising....maybe drop a buck or two off the CD price for it. Good idea!

Do we want to take the chance on a review? :)

If somebody writes an article that'd be great. I might take a stab at it. If anybody wants to volunteer, please make sure you have writing skills first though :)

Dragon is willing to do the front page thing...but he's never around :( I'd also like something persistant on the BBS pages.

Get the Real Thing

We should get the real thing.
Count me in to help with pre-orders or any other reasonable $$ vehicle. I'll start telling my friends to PRE-ORDER YOUR COPY NOW!! SUPPLIES ARE LIMITED!!

(FYI - I'm a new member, but I've been plugged in by proxy. I'm DaveO's musical collaborator [Joyride by G&O Project on CompII] and future rock star)

... and the way I was talking up this site for the last few years you'd think you would have registered a long time ago. It's about time! :D
