hey folks, i'm not sure if this is the right forum for this q., so forgive me in advance if it's not. first, my goal. i want to convert tracks from a cd to real audio files to put up on the net. i've already made mp3 files using music match jukebox and that was easy. i cannot get real producer g2 (the free one) to recognize the cd player. i even tried to get it to access the songs as files from the cd to no avail. also, i can't find where in real producer g2 to select the bandwidth as dragon describes in the real audio page. you can only select, voice, music, etc. so what am i doing wrong here? my only reason for wanting to use real audio is try streaming as dragon describes. mp3's were so easy, what gives with the real audio? thanks!

yea real producer wont make files from the cd. but heres waht you can do. plug a cd player into a mixer and then plug it in the cpu and record from there.as far as the bandwith i dont get what your saying.

thanks darius! wow, that seems so strange that it wouldn't be able to simply make the conversion from the cd player. by running it through a mixer and then back into the cpu, it's going to go through more d/a/a/d conversions and sound even worse. are there any other programs out there that will make real audio files directly from the cd in the computer? i see alot of web sites with ra demos. surely it can't be this difficult. thanks again!

tony-
i hope when you plugged it in the cpu you didnt plug it in the mic input. anyways i found out a prog dat does do it its real jukebox but the sound isnt that great because its recording thru the mic

ooh, you guys are doing it the hard way. To be able to compress files to Real Audio format you must first rip the cd audio tracks to a wave file (.wav). There are several freeware programs out that do this, I use Easy CD Audio Extractor.
After they are ripped to wave files, Real Producer will work with them.
As for changing the targeted bandwidth, I forget which menu it is, I'll check at work tomorrow and post. But it has something to do with presentation settings... and it lets you edit the premade selections (Voice, Music, etc.) or make your own.

hey zach,

thanks! that was exactly my point. it just seemed goofy to me that you couldn't simply take the audio from the computer's internal cd player. now i understand about getting it into .wav format. tho it still seems strange that real producer can't do what the freeware mp3 programs will do. i mean, simply taking the data from the cd and ripping it. anyway, thanks for the tip! do you know where that .wav freeware is available?

lastly, i'll be curious for the bandwidth instructions too. i couldn't find them anywhere in real producer. i wonder if dragon wrote his instructions with the same version that i'm using (the most current).

thanks again zach!

and thanks to darius too!
