OK here is where I am at in the process... I have recorded my music on tape, rerecorded it into SB Live (let me get the hang of this before I upgrade to a better sound card) located my files and imported them into Easy CD Creator 5. Now I want to burn this collection of songs to a music CD. Someone please lead me through that part of the process, step by step if possible, this is new to me but it's starting to be fun. Thanks, Dani

Hi,

I use this program myself from time to time, so I will try to help. One thing I am not sure of is whether you are wanting to make an mp3 disc or a regular, CD style disc, so I will go with the regular CD style.

In the main menu/project selector screen you want to click on 'make a music cd'.

Then click on the 'music cd' option.

This should take you to a new window. In the top part of the window is a list of your files. You will want to browse through the little explorer and find the files you want to record.

Then, drag and drop them into the bottom window where it says 'add tracks and audio files here'.

Once you have them in the order you want, just click 'record'.

At that point it will promp you with a few options...if you want to get a regular CD the way you have the items recorded, then click 'disc at once'. That will record and close the disc and then you are done!

If you have any other questions or trouble, fell free to write back. Hope this helped! :)

Thanks a lot. I followed your dirrections and it worked just like it was supposed too. The results were surprisingly clear and I am quite pleased.
Another question...In the recording options box what does the "track at a time" option do? This digital recording thing is new to me so I am sure I'll come up with plenty of questions as I make progress and encounter new problems.
Thanks for your help. Dani

It's about quality. You should select "track at once" this burns the data in a continious stream giving better audio quality.

BUT

you should defrag your harddrive before recording audio and before burning. This will put your data in a continious file and not give you pops and clicks after you burn the CD.

Dani,

You are more than welcome for the assistance...i'm glad it worked :)

However, I want to get in on what Proteus said in his response...

The 'disc at once' option is where the burner starts and does not stop until the disc is completed. I think this is what proteus thinks the 'track at once' does, but that is not correct.

When you choose 'track at once', the burner is going to put the files on the disc exactly as it sounds...as separate tracks or as separate sessions...depending on the option you choose. With some of the options here you can burn a track, remove the disc and then add on other tracks later.

Unfortunately I am not at the computer that has Easy Creator, so I may have to get back to you on this, but the 'disc at once' is the option that will burn in one complete stream.

Also, if for some reason you notice a few spots in the disc you burn that don't play correctly, try burning them at different speeds. Depending on the quality of the CDr you are using, the materials inside may burn better using different burning speeds.

Also Dani, I forgot to note than when you do burn using the 'track at once' option, the burner puts a 2-3 second gap inbetween tracks. So, if for some reason the music you are putting on the disc needs some silence before and after the tracks, this may be the way to go :)

yes i meant disc at once, thatnks for clearing that up.

Thanks a lot guys, with your help this is starting to make sense to me. I'm a bit behind the times and not the best with the computer but I am slowly making progress. I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions before I get a full grasp of things. Sometime in the not to distant future I plan to upgrade my other puter so I can use it to record in the studio so I'll be looking for advice on sound cards and CD burners, I don't have to have the best but I do want to use some good quality stuff. All the advice I've gotten in BBS has been such a help, I don't know how to thank everyone enough. Dani

Dani,

Again, you are very welcome for the info.

I got into home recording about 2 years ago and started from scratch, so I know how confusing all of the stuff can sound from time to time.

You are welcome to keep my e-mail address (which is electriccomposer@earthlink.net) and you are welcome to e-mail me any questions you have-especially since you are wanting to start on recording down the road.

These boards are a great source for information, but sometimes the answers from the experienced people don't take into consideration how complex it all seems to newbies.

So, glad to help out and feel free to contact me anytime. (You can also contact me through my website, just click the little www tab at the bottom of my post sections.

best of luck!
